How to Splurge or Save in Beverly Hills

From spas to hotels, you'll find more than just luxury in this iconic town

Beverly Hills is a city synonymous with luxury. From legendary hotels that allow guests to walk in the footsteps of movie stars to fine dining restaurants run by celebrity chefs, the Los Angeles enclave exudes Hollywood glamour. But it’s also a historic haven that anyone can enjoy with beautiful parks, botanical gardens, and Art Deco landmarks.

For every brand-new luxury boutique on Rodeo Drive, there’s an architectural gem like the 1920s-era Greystone Mansion, which is now open to the public for tours. It’s a dynamic combination that invites exploration. Get to know the two sides of Beverly Hills, where upscale experiences exist alongside beloved institutions steeped in local lore.

Where to stay

Splurge: In a city where five-star accommodations abound, it’s hard to choose just one. Go straight to the top—literally—with a stay at the Beverly Wilshire, A Four Seasons Hotel, which offers a whole-floor buyout that includes the penthouse and three additional suites ($50,000/night, five-night minimum).

Opened in 1928 on the site of the former Beverly Hills Speedway, the Beverly Wilshire helped usher in a new era of luxury for the city—though the hotel’s greatest claim to fame in pop culture may be its cameo role in the movie Pretty Woman. Live the luxe life like Julia Robert’s character during your stay with after-hours spa access, a private Saks Fifth Avenue shopping suite, and a curated tasting menu at Wolfgang Puck’s CUT Beverly Hills, all included in the top-floor package.

Save: For those looking for something more intimate—but no less chic—Maison 140 Beverly Hills has 44 king and queen guest rooms that start at $159 per night. The charming Parisian-style inn features an onsite bar with live music, and provides guests with access to all the amenities at a sister hotel next door, including the pool, fitness center, and restaurant.

What to eat and drink

Splurge: With two Michelin-starred restaurants and several others recognized by the guide, Beverly Hills is experiencing a culinary renaissance. Savor all the best bites at Gucci Osteria da Massimo Bottura, housed within the eponymous boutique on Rodeo Drive. The eight-course chef’s experience guides diners through the contemporary Italian and Californian menu with a premium Cantina Privata wine pairing ($500 per person).

Afterward, make your way to Spago Beverly Hills for a nightcap, where mixology is an art form. Logo-stamped ice, garnishes, and elegant glassware elevate sips like the Haiku, a $69 premium cocktail made with 12-year Suntory Hakushu Japanese whisky.

Save: Proof that you don’t need to splurge to eat like a local, Nate’n Al’s signature stuffed cabbage ($16.75 for two) is a Beverly Hills delicacy. A storied institution dating back to 1945, the deli was a favorite of the late Larry King. The menu is packed with affordable deli staples like the classic pastrami on rye ($27.95) and potato latkes ($13.70 for two).

Use the dollars you save on drinks at the five-star Maybourne Hotel, an upscale spot just a couple blocks away where artful cocktails won’t break the bank. The rooftop restaurant, Dante Beverly Hills, offers a $10 “martini hour” every day from 3–5 p.m.

Where to shop

Splurge: Beverly Hills’ crown jewel of shopping is Rodeo Drive, which houses more than 100 luxury brands across three blocks. Here, fashion houses like Dior roll out the red carpet with private VIP appointments that showcase the latest ready-to-wear, handbags, and exotic leathers. The shopping district also has the largest Chanel boutique in the country and flagship locations for brands including Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Harry Winston, and Cartier.

Save: Want the look for less? Head to Canon Drive to browse the family-run 260 Sample Sale, where you can score savings of up to 70 percent on final-sale items from high-end brands including L’Agence, Staud, LoveShackFancy, and Maison Kitsuné.

Relax and unwind

Splurge: In a city where glitz and glamour are second nature, even spa experiences can feel like a red-carpet affair. Unwind in a private suite for two at Tomoko Spa with a detoxifying foot soak and signature couple's massage ($1,100–$1,420). After a relaxing Japanese ofuro bath experience, finish your treatment with sushi, tea, and sweets.

Save: Even the no-frills Bao Foot Spa will feel like five-star luxury after a long day of shopping and sightseeing. Sink into a massage chair for 30 minutes of Chinese reflexology that includes a warm foot bath with your service ($40). If you have time to spare, wander through Beverly Gardens Park to check out free public art and finely manicured gardens. The park’s iconic Beverly Hills sign offers a great photo op to commemorate an unforgettable trip to this famous zip code.
