The highly anticipated Jurassic World—The Ride opened today at Universal Studios Hollywood. Taking the place of Jurassic Park—The Ride, the new miniland features a water thrill ride, a “Raptor Encounter” with the beloved Velociraptor Blue, an interactive “DinoPlay” area, and a themed bar and restaurant.
At the entrance of Jurassic World—The Ride, guests are greeted by two new dinosaurs: a baby Raptor (and its "handler"), and a life-sized Triceratops. Once on the ride, you'll float on a 25-person boat through various lands of dinosaurs, including an elaborate tank filled with realistic schools of fish and a temperamental Mosasaurus. The boat continues through lush landscapes past friendly dinosaurs before a turn of events leads to a showdown between the Indominus rex and T. rex. Stars of the Jurassic World films, including Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, and BD Wong, make video appearances to warn you of the danger ahead. The attraction's finale—an 84-foot water plunge—is captured in a slo-mo video and is available for purchase to share directly on social media.
The ride brings the blockbuster movies to life thanks to a collaboration between Universal Creative, special effects company Industrial Light & Magic, Universal Pictures, and filmmakers Steven Spielberg, Frank Marshall, and Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow. According to USA Today, Trevorrow was a “die-hard fan of the original Jurassic ride” and helped to up the ante on improved animatronics and immersive technology for its original and new dinosaurs.
Cap off your day exploring the attraction with a tiki cocktail at the new Isla Nu-Bar, or grab a bite of Costa Rican–inspired food at Jurassic Café.
