There’s more to Greater Palm Springs than the star-studded annual desert festival that goes by the name of Coachella. In fact, celebs have been frequenting this desert oasis in Southern California for years, so it’s clearly always been the place to be seen. With millionaire homes that are more works of art than a humble abode, design and style are at the forefront of Palm Springs’ architecture.
Away from civilisation you’d be forgiven for thinking that you’d find only barren desert land, and some tumble weed thrown in for good measure. However, amongst the sandy expanse, art prevails and you’ll find a place where imaginations run wild – Desert X!
A celebration of the connection between humans and their environment, Desert X, which saw its first exhibition in early 2017, is returning for a second year Feb. 9 to April 21, 2019. Contemporary artists from all over the world use the unique conditions of the desert as a blank canvas, from which to create and inspire. The exhibition is free and open to the public, however there are tours every Saturday and Sunday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
This year, Amanda Hunt, Director of Education and Public Programs at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles and writer Matthew Schum join returning Artistic Director Neville Wakefield as co-curators.
