For roughly two weeks every February, the setting sun reflects off the waters of Yosemite National Park’s Horsetail Falls, creating the twilight illusion of fire cascading down El Capitan. The incandescent Firefall is truly a sight to behold, drawing thousands of visitors to the park each year.
Reservations for Yosemite’s Firefall
Due to the Firefall’s popularity, Yosemite has a reservation system to alleviate parking congestion and create a better visitor experience. Reservations ($2, available at recreation.gov) will be required for entry to Yosemite during three periods: February 10–12; February 17–19; and February 24–26, 2023. The entrance fee for the park is $35 per car, so you can load up your friends to catch a glimpse of the glow; the pass is valid for seven days.
Parking and Transportation to Yosemite’s Firefall
Parking at Yosemite Falls (the lot closest to the falls) is limited; if full, park at Yosemite Village or Curry Village and hop on the free shuttle to Yosemite Falls. For any of these options, be sure to bring comfortable shoes, as the walk is a little over a mile. You can also book a guided bus tour to see the Firefall. The Yosemite Area Transit System (YARTS) is an easy way to get around the park—note that the closest stop to the event is located at Yosemite Valley Lodge.
