In this episode of Gameday, we’re taking on the IndyCar Grand Prix of Long Beach for a day of exploring, racing, and adventure! Our host Duncan McKenzie-McHarg is joined by Australian TV host and motoring journalist, Kate Peck. Kate is here to give us a local’s tour of Long Beach and a behind-the-scenes look at the iconic Indy Car race.
Starting out in Shoreline Village, the two explore the vibrant boardwalk, soaking up the seaside charm, and browsing through the quaint shops and eateries found along the way. The first stop is the famous candy shop, Sugar Pop Sweet Shoppe for all kinds of delicious American candies. And it’s not really a day at the boardwalk unless you get an ice cream from Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt on the Boardwalk.
Now, onto the main event – the longest running street race in North America! The IndyCar Grand Prix of Long Beach is one of the most popular races in the county, bringing in 200,000 racing enthusiasts every year to watch the 268 km, 11-turn, 85 lap event. This year, the race had it all – Indy Cars, Stadium Super trucks, sports cars, vintage cars, and a whole lot of passion
Our Aussie hosts spent this game day chatting to local fans, learning about the event’s history from veteran racers, and watching in awe as the expert drivers tore around the circuit. The pair finished the action-packed day by congratulating the winning driver, Scott Dixon from New Zealand, and hearing about the adrenaline-filled race.
There’s something truly special about the atmosphere at Long Beach, on and off the track – making it a must-visit destination for any sports fan looking for a Californian adventure.
